چکیده
Perchloroethylene, also known as tetrachloroethylene or perc, has been used safely in industry for over 50 years. It is an effective, nonfl ammable solvent that does not contribute to the formation of smog (ground-level ozone) or to the depletion of stratospheric ozone. The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved the use of perchloroethylene as a replacement for stratospheric ozone-depleting solvents. Perchloroethylene is one of nearly 200 substances listed as hazardous air pollutants under the federal Clean Air Act. EPA has developed national emissions standards for drycleaning, degreasing, and other sources of the solvent.

متن کاملModeling perchloroethylene degradation under ultrasonic irradiation and photochemical oxidation in aqueous solution
Sonolysis and photochemical degradation of different compounds such as chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons are among the recent advanced oxidation processes. Perchloroethylene is one of these compounds that has been mainly used as a solvent and degreaser. In this work, elimination of perchloroethylene in aqueous solution by ultrasonic irradiation, andphotochemical oxidation by ultra violet ray a...
متن کاملOccupational exposure to perchloroethylene in dry-cleaning shops in Tehran, Iran.
Perchloroethylene, the most widely used solvent in dry cleaning, is toxic to the liver, kidneys and central nervous system and may be a human carcinogen. An exposure assessment was carried out in 69 dry-cleaning shops using perchloroethylene in Tehran city, Iran. The 8-h time weighted average (TWA) breathing zone air samples and end-exhaled air samples were obtained from 179 workers who worked ...
متن کاملNovel aerobic perchloroethylene degradation by the white-rot fungus Trametes versicolor.
Perchloroethylene (PCE) is one of the most important groundwater pollutants around the world. It is a suspected carcinogen and is believed to be recalcitrant to microbial degradation. We report here, for the first time, aerobic degradation of PCE by the white rot fungus, Trametes versicolor, to less hazardous products. Aerobic degradation rate of PCE was 0.20 and 0.28 nmol h(-1) mg(-1) dry weig...
